Nanyuki Airstrip in Kenya

Nanyuki Airstrip in Kenya is located in the Nanyuki Laikipa county within the Rift Valley region. The airstrip sits on the western foothills of the mountain of Kenya. More so, it lies about 8 kilometers south of the equator and about 140 kilometers away from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Additionally, the Nanyuki Airstrip in Kenya is about 1905 meters above sea level with a single runway (1200 meters long). Nanyuki Airstrip is a government-owned airfield that is privately leased for offering private and commercial flights around Kenya. Furthermore, this airstrip handles only small planes, single-engine planes, and twin-engine planes. The airstrip is used for charted flights, emergency flights, and private flights. Solio Ranch Sanctuary

This is also known as Solio Game Reserve. It is a privately owned wildlife conservancy located in central Kenya. Solio Game Reserve is between Mount Kenya and Aberdare Mountain – a few kilometers north of Nyeri Town. More so, the sanctuary’s purpose of establishment is the conservation of black rhinos. These are the dominant species in the ranch. Rhinos are part of the big five animals which make it an interesting attraction in the sanctuary.

Furthermore, Solio Ranch was first set up in 1960 when the owners left cattle rearing and engaged in the conservation of the black rhinos. These rhinos were on the verge of extinction due to many factors. The ranch was the first place to be set up for black rhino conservation. It was named after Solio who was the great chief of the Masai community. When you visit this sanctuary, you get a chance to spot many animals. Some of these include; buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, and many others. Rhino tracking is the major tourist activity done in Solio Game Reserve. Other activities that travelers can do here are; game drives, helicopter adventures, and nature walks. There are several accommodation facilities near Solio Game Reserve. The most common option is Solio Lodge. This lodge is situated within the ranch. However, there are other options outside the ranch.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is another protected area located near Nanyuki Airstrip in Kenya.  The conservancy is also located in the central Kenya province. It covers about 360 square kilometers of land west of the equator in the Nanyuki. It also lies between the foothills of the mountains of Aberdare and Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to several rhino species. Some of these include; the northern rhinos, white rhinos, and many others. It also has the largest number of rhinos in Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the last home of the two remaining northern rhinos that travelers can encounter on their safaris. It was established in 1988 after being transformed from a cattle ranch.

Additionally, there are chimpanzees at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This makes it the best place for primate experience in Kenya. Other animals found in this sanctuary include; lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, zebras, hyenas, and much other wildlife.  To encounter these animals, you can engage in activities like night and day game drives, nature walks, rhino tracking, lion tracking, and many others.

Mountain Kenya National Park

Mountain Kenya is the second tallest volcanic mountain in Africa. It is also an ancient extinct volcano comprising 12 remnant glaciers on all the peaks. Additionally, Mount Kenya is one of the most impressive mountains in East Africa with its highest peak Lenana with an elevation of about 4985 meters above sea level. There are about 130 bird species that travelers encounter on their safaris that are recorded in this park. The dominant community in this community is the Kikuyu who are the agriculturalists on both sides of the mountain.

The wildlife species that travelers encounter on their safaris include elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, colobus monkeys, rhino leopards, impalas, hyenas, and many others. So travelers during the flights from Nanyuki airstrip to mountain Kenya, there are several activities that they engage in like game viewing, nature walks, hiking, cultural encounters, birding, and many others.

The park has lodges dotted around it. Some of these accommodation facilities include; Serena Mountain Lodge, Rutundu Log Cabins, Shiptons Camp Mountain Hut, Castle Forest Lodge, Bantu Mountain Lodge, Fair Mount Kenya Safari Club, and many others.

Aberdare National Park

Aberdare National Park is another interesting destination near Nanyuki Airstrip. It is located in the central Kenya province east of the Rift Valley. The park is covered with open moorlands and dense forests. This park became famous after the visit of the Queen of England in 1952. Some of the activities done in this park include; game drives, hiking, birding, cultural community visits, and many others.
