Mweya Safari Lodge
Mweya Safari Lodge is arguably one of the oldest lodges in Queen Elizabeth National Park. This safari lodge is located on the Mweya Peninsular looking at the Kazinga channel and Lake Edward.
Mweya Safari Lodge is strategically located in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth National Park with the perfect views of the mountain Rwenzori and Lake Edward.
The lodge is made up of 32 spacious rooms with each having a private balcony and amazing views of the Kazinga channel. During your stay at this property, several wildlife are spotted around the lodge. Groups of banded Mongoose, Warthogs, Elephants and ververt monkeys are often spotted roaming around the lodge.

Mweya Safari Lodge boasts of a spacious outdoor swimming pool that has a private bar and spa. The other amenities in this lodge are the sauna, hair saloon, steam room, and gym. The lodge has an airstrip within its vicinity for Travelers would wish to avoid the long driving distances.

Game Drive
Safari game drives starting from Mweya Safari lodges have left many tourists on Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park in awe. The drive from Mweya Lodge through the Channel track has proven to be rewarding for many tourists. This is a 25km stretch where you spot many elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, and leopards on a lucky day. On a lucky day, you don’t need to drive to Kasenyi plains for a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. You could spot all the Big 4 in the tracks around the Mweya Peninsular.
Boat Cruise
The docking site for the boat trips on the Kazinga Channel is just 5 minutes’ drive from Mweya safari lodge. The lodge its self owns about 5 different boats with different carrying capacities which can be booked through the lodge itself. This water-based experience brings you closer to majestic sites of basking crocodiles, elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes, and Crocodiles. The boat trips around Mweya Lodge start at 2 pm going for a period of 2 to 3 hours depending on the sightings of the day
Chimpanzee Trekking
Chimpanzee Trekking takes place at the Kyambura gorge which is about 40km from Mweya safari lodge in Queen Elizabeth National park. Chimpanzees are considered to be the closest cousins of man sharing a DNA of 98%. Chimpanzee Trekking at Kyambura Gorge has got 2 sessions with a maximum of only 8 people allowed to track these apes.
The Morning chimpanzee Trekking starts at 8 am in the morning and the afternoon session starts at 2 pm in the afternoon. To track chimpanzees of Kyambura Gorge, you need a trekking permit that is bought from the Uganda Wildlife Authority offices through a licensed Tour operator in Uganda.
International Visitors pay 100$ for the permits whereas the residents pay 50,000 Ugandan shillings. You will need to pay an extra entrance fee of 40 USD for international Visitors and 30,000 Ugandan shillings for a resident. This fee is separate from your Chimpanzee Trekking Permit.
Birding
Queen Elizabeth National Park has a rich checklist count of 612 bird species. During birding, you will be accompanied by a bird guide ready to help you spot the rare and common birds. These include the Black-Headed Gonlek, Kingfishers, and African Fish eagles.
Nature Walks
Nature walks around Mweya Lodge are done on foot with an armed ranger guide from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. There are several wildlife species seen in this tourist activity and these include elephants, warthogs, kobs, and many bird species
How to Get to Mweya Safari Lodge
Mweya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park is accessed by both road and air transport.
There are travelers who would love to skip the long bumpy drives from Entebbe or any other Uganda Safari destination. These can take a 45-minute charter flight to Mweya Airstrip. Upon landing, you will be picked up by the lodge team and embark on a 5-minute drive to the Lodge. The Aerolink Flight Company in Uganda operates these daily flights.
It takes about a 7-hour drive from Kampala to Mweya safari lodge by road. You either drive through Mbarara or Fort Portal Tourism City.
