Sitting on 2,043 km2, Pian-Upe Wildlife Reserve is one of Uganda’s largest conserved and protected areas, it comes second to Murchison Falls National Park. Located in the Karamoja subregion in Nakapiripirit District, north of Mount. Elgon. The reserve has quite a number of wildlife species like plain zebras, impalas, giraffes, buffalos, elands and so much more. It is a birder’s favorite with a variety of interesting bird species such as ostriches.

Dense, thick vegetation and tall trees forming a canopy over the forest creating a pitch of darkness within the forest is what best describes Bwindi which also means “darkness” in the local dialect. With over 400 different plant species and 324 tree species that undeniably contribute to the impenetrability of the park. This vegetation cover fortunately favors the settlement of endangered mountain gorillas and Bwindi is reported to hold the largest population of these species with over 600 of them – almost half of the global population.

Named as the third best National Park in Uganda, it was established in 1962 just as when Uganda attained its Independence, Kidepo Valley National Park is located in North Eastern Uganda in Kaabong District and about 510 kilometers away from Kampala the Capital of Uganda. It is an isolated gem situated in the wilderness far away from most of Uganda’s National Parks that are closely located in the Western Region of Uganda.

Located within the Albertine region in western part of Uganda, Kibale national park sits on a 795 km2 piece of land neighbored by other safari destinations like Queen Elizabeth National Park, Rwenzori Mountains and Semuliki National Park.

Sipi Falls are the most stunning waterfalls in the pearl of Africa and one of the most visited tourism site in Uganda. Located in the East of Uganda, 277km from the capital city Kampala, they are located in Kapchorwa close to the Uganda –Kenya border on the foothills of Mount Elgon. The falls are composed of three different falls whose waters originate from the fast flowing rivers penetrating through the steep slopes to form the thunderous falls.     

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, the smallest park in Uganda is located in the Virunga Conservation Area (VCA), a region which also encompasses Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and Virunga National Park in Congo. Mgahinga National Park is found in Kisoro District, Southwestern Uganda and it is one of the best locations to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
