The 3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari will take you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The park is located in southwestern Uganda. Visit Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park which covers the Ugandan slopes of three volcanoes; Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. Having these 3 days in Mgahinga will leave a memorable moment in your mind, watch the beautiful bird species, exciting views of the beautiful scenes and wild animals like the golden monkeys as well as huge mountain gorillas and other wild animals like elephants, buffalos, leopards and more.
The main activities of our safari are gorilla and golden monkey trekking, the park raises upwards to the aerial view of the three countries on Mt Sabinyo – Uganda, D.R.C, Rwanda, and towards the rift valley escarpments. Below is a detailed 3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Mgahinga National Park
Land at Entebbe International Airport as our company representative welcomes you to Uganda and he will take you through a short briefing about this safari, have a short breakfast at any of the restaurants in Kampala and depart to Mgahinga National Park. While on the way, enjoy the beautiful eye-catching attractions like the Uganda equator, terraced highlands, coffee farms, Ankole long-horned cattle, and many more. Lunch en route will be served at a cultural center as you get entertained by the local cultural dancers.
On reaching Mgahinga check in at your booked lodge for accommodation, have dinner, and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tours
On this second day of the tour, wake up early in the morning have your breakfast. Head to the conservation offices to check the gorilla trekking permits. Have a short briefing then go for gorilla trekking. During your activity, be able to see different wild animals like elephants, buffalos, and the huge forest hogs. If you are lucky enough, and some bird species like the striking Rwenzori turaco.
The activity will take about 2-8 hours depending on the geographical location of the gorillas, following the trail of the green cover across the slopes of the Virungas spend an hour with the Mountain gorillas. After the activity is done return to your booked accommodation facility, have your mouthwatering lunch, and prepare yourself for the afternoon optional activity like visiting the Batwa cultural tour.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali
Wild animals are always active in the morning so, wake up early in the morning, prepare, and have your breakfast. Depart to the park head offices for a short briefing as you continue Golden Monkey trekking.
Golden monkeys are located in the bamboo forests. It takes about 2-4 hours to trek for golden monkeys including an hour to be spent with them as you enjoy their exciting behaviors. Like how they are attracted to the flashlight camera, not like the gorillas which are frightened by flashlight. After your trekking, return to the lodge for check out. Get organized for a departure to Kigali in Rwanda for a flight back home. On your way to Kigali, meet some people grazing along the roadside and some doing subsistence farming. This will mark the end of your 3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari.
