The 3 Days Congo Lowland gorillas offer you yet another remarkable primate adventure experience. This unique gorilla tour involves visiting the Eastern Lowland gorillas in the wild and you will be at Kahuzi-Biega National Park. It is the only park where these unique primates can be trekked in their natural habitat.
Kahuzi-Biega National Park was founded in 1970 mainly to conserve the Eastern Lowland gorillas (Grauer’s gorilla). It is a vast park with a land area measuring up to 6000 sq. km and derives its name from 2 dormant volcanoes –Mt. Kahuzi (3380 m) and Biega (2790 m). The park lies on the Eastern side of the D.R. Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Bukavu in the Congo
Leave Kigali for Congo lowland gorilla tour and you will get there via the Southern side of Rwanda. En route, expect to make stop visits at the royal palace in Nyanza (most famous as Rukaari). Proceed to Butare for lunch, and later visit the National Museum before heading to Bukavu crossing via Cyangugu border.
Day 2: Grauer’s gorilla trekking
A delicious breakfast will be enjoyed early in the morning and after, report to Kahuzi-Biega National Park offices to get briefed. At 8:00 am, begin your special trek through Kahuzi-Biega National Park to search for the Grauer’s gorillas. The primate trek will take 2-5 hours and a special one hour. This is meant for you to watch closely the lowland gorillas in the wild and take pictures.
Start trekking back after great moments with the Eastern lowland gorillas. Relax at the lodge till later in the afternoon. Then you will take a walk to visit Tshibati waterfalls or Mbayo tea estates and get back for dinner and a night’s sleep in your respective lodges/hotels.
Day 3: Depart Bukavu for Kigali
You will be served a hot cup of tea/coffee and after, check out of your hotel property, and meet the driver guide. Start your road trip back to Kigali early and today marks the end of the 3 Days lowland gorilla trip.
