The 2 days Rwenzori Mountain Hiking Tour takes you to Africa’s third highest mountain, Mt Rwenzori National Park, offering you a chance to explore the scenic beauty and the lush, misty tropical rainforests. Mt. Rwenzori is Africa’s third-highest mountain, standing 5109 meters above sea level, renowned for its glaciers and stunning lakes and rivers that create the magical beauty.
Mt Rwenzori is home to over 70 mammal species and 217 bird species, including the Rwenzori Turaco, Long-eared owl, Archer’s Robin-chat, Lagden’s Bush Shrike, Blue-headed and Golden-winged sunbird, white-starred Robin, Slender-billed Starling, Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater, and many other species. The park features stunning landscapes that offer hiking adventures, though they are physically demanding, thus referred to as the mystical challenge.

Details of the 2-day Rwenzori Hiking Tour
Day 1: Arrival and Trekking to Lake Mahoma
Early in the Morning, you will meet and greet our representative, who will be your guide/driver for the next 2 days. Your guide will take you through a briefing of the 2-day Rwenzori Hiking Tour, including the accommodation, trekking requirements, and gear, as well as the starting point for your trekking experience. Later, you will embark on an approximately 1-hour drive to the park Headquarters.
Upon arrival, you will have a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority park rangers concerning the rules and regulations while trekking through the forests. From this point, you may hire a porter if you want and later start your hiking experience. The trekking experience takes about 7 hours to reach Lake Mahoma, including a stopover at Nyabitaba Camp, which is at 2651 meters above sea level. The trekking experience is relatively challenging and yet a rewarding experience. Along the trek, you will have a chance to spot a variety of bird species for birders, including the Long-eared owl, Archers’ Robin-chat, Lagden’s Bush Shrike, Blue-headed and Golden-winged sunbird, white-starred Robin, Slender-billed Starling, and Cinnamon-chested Bee-eater.
You will enjoy your packed lunch at Nyabitaba camp and later proceed to Lake Mahoma. Arrive at the lake with stunning views of the lake and sweeping cool fresh air. You will set up your camping tents as well as a fireplace to comfort and warm you after a long day of Hiking. Enjoy your dinner at the campfire and have a peaceful overnight.
Day 2: Descend and Return to Kasese
Rise early in the morning with sights and sounds of the Rwenzori’s, enjoy a restful breakfast, and explore the hidden treasures of Lake Mahoma. Lake after the Lake Experience, dismantle your camping tent and embark on a descending experience. Descending from Lake Mahoma shall take you about 4 hours to the base camp, where you will meet your guide.
Upon arrival, you will return to Kasese/pick-up point as you conclude the 2-day Rwenzori Hiking Tour, marking a magical experience.
