14 Days Rwanda Safari

We invite you to embark on a 14 days safari in Rwanda, a country renowned as the land of a thousand hills. This journey will take you to various destinations, where you will participate in activities such as game drives, community visits, city tours, gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, and chimpanzee trekking, among others. Throughout this safari, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Rwandan communities you visit. Below is a detailed 14 days Rwanda Safari.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali 

Upon your arrival in Kigali, you will be transferred to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. 

Meal Plan: Dinner  

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park 

Your second day will begin with breakfast, followed by a transfer to Akagera National Park, which will take approximately two hours. Upon arrival, you will enjoy lunch before heading to Lake Ihema. Here, you will embark on a boat cruise, where you can observe various wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards, and more. Afterward, you will return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

14 Days Rwanda Safari

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera 

The third day will commence with breakfast, followed by a full-day adventure in Akagera National Park. This game drive will provide an opportunity to observe the diverse savannah wildlife, including the renowned Big Five.  Wildlife sightings may include lions, rhinos, buffaloes, leopards, elephants, as well as zebras, giraffes, and many other species.  

Day 4: Return to Kigali 

On this day, you will begin with breakfast before transferring back to Kigali. Upon your arrival, you will participate in a city tour that will showcase various notable sites. In the evening, you will be taken to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park 

After a leisurely breakfast, you will embark on a transfer to Nyungwe National Park, which will take approximately 5 to 6 hours. During the journey, there will be a stop at the King’s Palace Museum and the Ethnographic Museum in Nyanza before continuing to the park. Upon arrival, you will be taken to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park 

You will rise early in the morning and proceed to the park headquarters after enjoying your breakfast. Upon arrival, you will receive a briefing on chimpanzee trekking, which will cover important guidelines and safety measures. Following the briefing, you will embark on the trekking activity, which may last between 2 to 7 hours. Once you encounter the chimpanzees, you will have one hour to observe them.  After the trekking experience, you will continue with a canopy walk within the park.

Day 7: Nature Walk and Cultural Experience 

Following a restful night, you will begin Day 7 with breakfast before embarking on a nature walk in the vicinity of Nyungwe National Park. Subsequently, you will immerse yourself in the cultural experience at Banda village, located nearby. During your time in Banda village, you will participate in various activities, including basket weaving, local cuisine preparation, and more.

Day 8: Transfer to Kibuye (Lake Kivu) 

This day will commence with relaxation at the lodge, followed by breakfast. Afterward, you will proceed with your transfer to Kibuye, a town situated near Lake Kivu. Upon your arrival in Kibuye, you will have the opportunity to unwind by the lake while enjoying lunch. Later, you will embark on a boat cruise on the lake, visiting Napoleon Island, formerly known as Nyamunini Island. In the evening, you will return to your hotel to relax and take in the scenic views of the lake.

Day 9: Explore Lake Kivu and Transfer to Gisenyi 

Your day will begin with a delightful experience of beach life at the lake, where you can sunbathe and enjoy a picnic breakfast. You will continue to relish the beach atmosphere throughout the morning. Later, you will transfer to Gisenyi, where you will have the chance to explore several hot springs.

Day 10: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park 

You will start your day with breakfast before transferring to Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwestern region of the country. Upon arrival, you will enjoy lunch and then visit the Gorilla Guardian Village. While at the village, you will engage in activities such as cultural dancing, banana brewing, and local cuisine preparation, among others. In the evening, you will be taken to your lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation. 

Day 11: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park 

The day dedicated to gorilla trekking will commence with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on the trekking experience. The trek itself will last between 2 and 7 hours. Once you encounter the gorillas, you will have one hour to observe them while maintaining a distance of 7 meters.

Day 12: Golden Monkey Trekking and Visit to Twin Lakes 

This day will begin with breakfast, after which you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing on golden monkey trekking. The trekking activity will take approximately 2 to 5 hours, culminating in an encounter with the monkeys. In the afternoon, you will visit the scenic Twin Lakes, Burera and Ruhondo. Following this, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Day 13: Dian Fossey Hike 

On the penultimate day of your safari, after an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing regarding the hike to Dian Fossey’s tomb. During the hike, a ranger guide will share insights into the history of Dian Fossey. This hike will take around 4 to 5 hours. Later, you will participate in a community walk around the park.

Day 14: Return to Kigali and Departure 

On the final day of your 14 days Rwanda safari, you will begin with breakfast before transferring to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be taken to the airport for your departure back home. This will mark the end of your adventurous 14 days Rwanda safari.
